Rating: B — A solid sequel that trades some of the wild unpredictability for richer character development but still keeps you turning the pages.

As the follow-up to The Arrangement, Kiersten Modglin’s The Amendment gives readers more time with Ainsley and Peter—two characters who are as compelling as they are twisted. The narrators once again deliver a stellar performance, pulling you right back into their world. While this sequel does offer deeper insight into the couple’s dynamic, I found it didn’t quite deliver the same wild, edge-of-your-seat energy as the first book. Some of the plot points began to feel a little far-fetched, but the addictive pace and sharp narration kept me engaged from start to finish.

What this installment lacks in shock value, it makes up for in character depth. Instead of constantly blindsiding the reader with jaw-dropping reveals, Modglin slows the pace just enough to explore what makes Ainsley and Peter tick—and why they’re so dangerously matched. There are still twists, of course (this is Modglin, after all), but they’re more measured and grounded. While it may not hit the same high as The Arrangement, it’s still a quick, entertaining read that leaves you curious enough to see where the series goes next.
